Tracking Down an Idiom

So there's an idiom for doing something thoroughly that I've always heard as "six ways from Tuesday," as in Man, that mack truck ruined my car six ways from Tuesday. However, the Urban Dictionary says the original idiom is "six ways from Sunday" and Google has a lot more hits for "six ways to Sunday," which is also the name of a movie from 1997. Is anyone else familiar with this idiom? Does anyone know what it might refer to or why it might have changed from Sunday to Tuesday?
